Throughout all of elementary and middle school, I read as much as I could. I would read whenever I had free time, sometimes going so far as staying up hours past my bedtime to finish a book. Sadly, when I started high school, that trend stopped due to the increased workload that comes with high school. I also started to participate in sports and clubs after school which made it even harder for me to find the time and read. However, I have read some books over the past year for school.
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. This was a book that we had to read during our AP Seminar class, but even though it was required, I was still interested in the plot and mystery surrounding Gatsby so I enjoyed the read. However, because the book was written in the 1920s, some of the book was confusing and had to be explained by our teacher.
Guns, Germs, and Steel by Jared Diamond. I had to read this book for an AP World History project, and I found it an interesting take on how the modern world was shaped by guns, germs, and steel. Although the read was somewhat of a bore at times, the author does a good job of keeping the reader engaged throughout.
Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. I read this book in eight grade and it enjoyed it so much that I thought I should read it again. I think the author does a great job in this book with keeping the plot entertaining and I also thought the symbolism was excellent. Although the ending is sad, the book makes me feel many different emotions which is proof of good work by the author.
