Assignment 3 - Oliver Fister

I'm afraid this blog post will not be among my least expansive or impressive. I have never been out the country. I have, although, been to many places within the country, and this country is a pretty great one: San Diego, twice, where I've seen many baseball games and saw many adorable seals/sea lions; Hilton Head, more times than I can count, where the water's warm and the Dogs are Salty; Orlando, Florida, where my dad's family frequents Universal Studios, which is awesome; I went to Michindoh, Michigan once for a church camp when I was in middle school, which featured woods, log cabins, a massive lake and really good times; and Texas, where my cousins live, and we visit whichever lakehouse they own at whatever point in time we go.

In especially California and Texas, I've learned to appreciate mostly the differing landscapes, not as much the culture. The rocky beaches and withered deserts of California and the clear streams and cliffs of Texas are so different from green, green Kentucky, it's just wonderful. One culturally striking place I have been to, however, is Asheville, North Carolina. I went there on a trip back from Hilton Head and walked around for a few hours. It has a very colorful, modern, fresh atmosphere. The buildings are packed with big and little shops and art students from the local college patrol the streets, likely in search for their next meal. I saw one, covered in piercings and hair full of green dye, sitting on a sidewalk with her dog and a cardboard sign that said "art for sale." The city, at very least, was quite the entertaining place.
