Often times I have heard adults say that teenagers are unable to make informed decisions about their beliefs, especially political beliefs. When I first heard this I thought this was blasphemy so I decided to reflect back on my political beliefs and how I got them and also my friends' political beliefs. My dad is politically conservative while my mom is politically liberal so throughout my life I have had two viewpoints to make an informed decision on where I stand. I myself am politically conservative on issues like the economy and national security, but I am also mainly socially liberal. I did not make my decisions based on "feelings" as many adults like to think teenagers make their decisions. I made mine after reading articles from both sides of the political spectrum and based on that I decided where I stand.
As for my friends, most of them are politically liberal and I know that their decisions are educated as well. We often have political discussions in class or at the lunch table and everybody is able to provide well-informed statements on what they think about the topic. After looking back, I realized that most times teenagers make informed decisions about their beliefs and a possible reason for adults saying this is that some teenagers' views do not agree the the adult's views.
