Assignment 25- Rhyan Lee

I’m a sporty person. Always have been. Both my mother and father excelled in multiple sports each. My grandmother was a local track star. To not play sports in my family was to be the odd ball. My dad is a part time coach with parks and recreation, so it gave me early exposure to sports as well. Starting when I was three I played soccer. And well..I wasn’t too good at it which is why I tried t-ball. I liked it and did that for a bit while also participating in Girl Scouts (my mom was troop leader). Then I lost my passion for t-ball and wanted to do something else. I didn’t know what until my mom became a coach for the recreation cheer team ran by upward. I wanted to do it as soon as I heard about it. I quit girls scouts and t-ball and out all of my eggs in the cheer basket and it’s done me well. From Upward recreational to intense competitive cheer I’ve made my way up though the levels. Now as a junior in high school, I’ve competed against some of the best teams in the nation met cheerleaders from all over the world (there’s some cute pics of my team with a team from the Philippines and a team from Costa Rica). I’ve met so many people and became the athlete that I wanted to be. I still have my issues with mental blocks and stuff, but it’s worth it. I remember one little girl coming up to me at a competition and wanting a picture with me. I had made an impact. A statement as an athlete to watch for. It’s like I’ve taken a small step into the celebrity hood of cheerleading. Sports are my life and probably always will be. Even when I’m not doing one I’ll always be supporting them.
