Though I didn’t like every single thing that we did in this class, there were a few that I believe helped me to become a better writer.
For starters, reading the book about writing styles and techniques impacted my writing a lot. And it especially helped that we read it early in the semester. I also liked the no no word list because even though it was hard to follow, it taught me how to think a better, more complex words to replace the simple phrases that I became used to using in my writing.
We wrote a lot of essays, but I felt that it gave me great practice with the different types of essays on the AP test. Writing each type of essay a few times instead of just once was really helpful in wrapping my head around the AP test.
I personally don’t like having my essay read aloud, but I understand the benefits of it being done. And surprisingly I did like the Socratic seminars. Talking about some more controversial topics with my peers helped me understand how other people think and analyze text. Almost every year in school since 6th grade I’ve done a Socratic seminar type activity, but I think it was executed in your class the best.
