Assignment 2- Bhoomi Shah

Over the past year, I sadly did not read many books out side of school. However, the books I did read were very interesting and captivated my attention as I delved deeper into them.

Great Gatsby by Robert E. Fitzgerald : This book was an assignment that I had to read for class but found very heart wrenching and interesting. The book's overall premise revolves around the tragic love story between Jay Gatsby and Daisy Buchanan. With a beautiful story line, Fitzgerald conveys to the readers that in the end love does not conquer all, and sadly a happy ending is not always guaranteed.

The Twentieth Wife by Indu Sundaresan : The book was also part of an assignment in my world history class. This book was set in ancient India, in the 1500s during the Mogul emperor, Akbar's rule. The story follows through the life of Mehurunissa, the daughter of one of Akbar's court members, who helplessly falls in love with Akbar's first born son, Jahangir. It again is a romance novel, however, with a little bit more. Rather than only focusing on the relationship between Jahangir and Nissa, Sundaresan also expertly incorporates Mogul court life into the book and allows us to view Mehurunissa's life as if we were too part of the palace with her.

Everyday by David Levithan : This is a romance novel that is narrated in the viewpoint of a being that wakes up in a new body every day and must struggle to be that person until midnight. Recently adapted into a movie, though I have not seen it yet, I felt like the book idea was interesting and decided to give it a shot. However, I found that the YA romance in this book was too immature for my liking as the main character in the novel (the being) falls in love with the girl protagonist in essentially one day, basically in the first chapter. This caused me to lose interest very quickly in the story and I gave up reading the book half way through it.
