First, once there is an occurrence of zombies every person must be properly equipped. I'd choose my array of shotguns and assault rifles while having multiple combat knives and possibly a bat. With guns come the need for ammunition, therefore I'd also have to stock up enough to where I could hold enough yet not be heavy on my feet.
Second, food will start to become scarce, as well as water. The ideal plan would be to get a boat and stock it up with food and water to last at least a month for my whole family, however, If we ration enough we could stretch that timetable to two months. Boats are an easy escape route if the area you are located in is already heavily infected, while zombies have difficulties swimming. Plus, being on the water gives access to many parts of the world.
Third, I'd need to stock up on gas for the boat to assure we would not get lost out at sea.
By this point, the zombies have reached my area of the country. I grab all my family members and pets and we barricade the house, however, this will only be a temporary location as food will run out.
Once zombies becoming too overwhelming it is time to get to the boat. The boat is docked at Lake Cumberland, due to the access to other rivers and the size of the lake, zombies would have a difficult time reaching us. Once we get to the boat and board, we will set sail into the middle of the lake where we'd drop the anchor. It is vital to save gas during times where there are little amounts of zombies. If anything goes wrong, we scurry on out using a river source and hopefully head into a larger body of water until the apocalypse ends.
