Most advice I've been given goes through one ear and out the other. I'm kind of stubborn and I don't receive advice well especially if I didn't ask for it beforehand. But the piece of advice that has really stuck with me to this day is that you can't change people who don't want to be changed.
This advice was given to me by my mother and she said this to me one day after I was angry over someone who refused to stop being ludicrous. Despite what so many people had told them they continued to do awful things to undeserving people. I was frustrated and I felt stuck, not knowing what to do. I have a habit of needing to fix everything and if I can't fix something I become frustrated. After seeing my frustration my mom heard me out about the issue and she then simply said "you can't change people who don't want to be changed".
Now I know people have heard this saying before from their parents or the internet or whatnot, but for 8 year old me who was still learning how to navigate through my social world, this "new" information really hit home.
I still use it today. Whenever I find myself getting upset over someone else and their actions I just remember what my mom said.
