How to do an ariel
Most likely you've done a cartwheel before, right? I mean who hasn't among also trying somersaults and rolling down a hill. Well, an ariel is just that except with no hands. Yes, it's a cartwheel with no hands. You might have seen gymnasts and dancers do them before and now you can attempt your own.
Warning: try at your own risk. Chances are likely that you will fall and injury might occur.
- Start in a lunge position (one leg out in front of the other with knees slightly bent) with your arms up right by your ears. I suggest beginning your ariel the same you would for a cartwheel since they are the same concept.
- Quickly shift your body weight from your back leg to your front leg by pushing off of the ground for power. At this point you will be just coming off of the ground.
- Swing your arms downward toward your front leg and use them to rotate your body around while in the air. (This whole time your legs should remain separate from each other and never come together)
- The leg that was the back leg should land first with the leg that was the front leg landing second behind it
- When you land you should be in the lunge position again. That's it.
Protip: If you can't get enough power from just pushing off of the ground alone, try to run into it.
It sounds more simple than what it actually is, but the learning process makes it fun.
