Assignment 22: Charlie Boone

Getting into good colleges can be very difficult; however, I have a lot to offer colleges. I feel as though the Henry Clay Academy has prepared me extremely well for college. The curriculum offered is very advanced, and offers many AP college level classes. This has allowed me to become a learned man! Also, there is a good chance I may not have to take certain courses in college. In addition, serving the community has been of special importance to me this year. I have worked a kids soccer camp, helped mentor an aspiring freshman, and even served the homeless. The last event has been one of the most impactful experiences on me this year because I saw the harsh reality of homelessness. While serving food, we ran out, and many people did not get to eat. These people were hungry, and it is safe to say they were very angry as well. The lady in charge of the action center was forced to hand out sandwiches for the next day, but she had to stop handing out more food because she began to worry about supplies for tomorrows lunch. This made me pity the women in charge. A very kind women at heart had to aggressively shut down the operation in order to continue helping the needy. I am sure the homeless people view this lady as insensitive, but I learned a valuable lesson from her actions. I learned that making tough decisions requires bravery and thick skin. I also learned compassion for the needy as many of these people were forced to this action center through unfortunate circumstances. And lastly, I learned gratitude because I am very fortunate to have three meals a day, and not have to worry about where my next meal comes from. This experience taught me many valuable things, and I hope to take what I have learned to college.
