I'm just going to start by saying that although I may have not enjoyed every aspect of the class (reading the timed writings out loud were always at least slightly stressful), I believe that this class has helped me become a much better writer.
I do think that the amount of timed writing we did was super helpful when it came to the AP test, and I like that we did the three types of essays in sections. However, I think it would be helpful if we could go back and do another synthesis essay at the end of the year to review before the AP test. I would also try and incorporate the group scoring for the timed writing a bit earlier, maybe starting in second semester. One of the most helpful parts of the scoring of our essays was your feedback, so if you could incorporate that into the group scoring process, that would be great.
Another process that I enjoyed was the Socratic seminars. I thought having the two groups was more beneficial than a whole class discussion. I enjoyed hearing about everyone's interpretations of the passage and listening to everyone's opinions on the piece we were discussing. It would be helpful to get feedback on how we performed in the discussion and see what we needed to change about our peer reviews after the first discussion so we could improve and change what we were doing wrong for the next session.
In the end, I have come out of this class as a better writer and with a deeper appreciation for the writing process. Hopefully this helps you!
