For a long time now, Americans have valued beauty over brains. To be completely honest, I had no idea that the Nobel Prize happened in October, but I knew that the Emmy's happened every year. I believe that this is in part because of the lack of publicity for the Nobel Prize, but I also believe that this has to do with the American belief of beauty over brains. Not everyone is like this, and in all honesty it may just be the media companies, but someone in charge holds that belief, therefore the Emmy's get more attention.
I believe that this is not good for American society. The Emmy's should continue to receive positive attention, because the people there deserve it, but we need to emphasize that being smart is important too. The emphasis on The Emmy's and glitz and glamour shows children that that is what is important, but if we put as much importance in the Nobel Prize as we do the Emmy's then we show that acting is cool, but being smart is cool as well.
It's not necessarily a difficult fix to promote the Nobel Prize like we do the Emmy's, but we need to just go ahead and do it, for the sake of promoting education and good work.
