Assignment 5 - Kelden Andrews
I would say the different treatment between the Emmy's and Nobels is quite easily explainable. The difference is simply in publicity which is to say millions of American's have seen these stars on TV and in Movies. As an example the 2017 Emmy winners (2017 because the 2018 Nobel's aren't out until october) are people like Donald Glover and Alec Baldwin, if they aren't household names they are atleast in either you or your neighbors household. The 2017 Nobel winners are Jacques Dubochet and Joachim Frank who are obviously, not household names. The 2017 Emmy winners were shows like Saturday Night Live and Last Week tonight while the 2017 Nobel was won for developing "cryo-electron microscopy for the high-resolution structure determination of biomolecules in solution". It's a sad difference from a simple point of view, oh no people care more about vapid entertainment than important scientific discorvery, sad maybe, but a problem? No. Most of the millions of people are at a point where this knowledge would neither help them or hurt them, it doesn't matter to the vast majority of people, which is sad, but not bad.
