Assignment 9 - Lydia Klumb
War is never a "good" thing. It may be necessary as a last resort, or a form of defense or protection, but it shouldn't be categorized as something that is positive. I believe that war should be considered a last resort for conflict. It shouldn't be used as a tactic for scaring others into submission or as a way to increase nationalism and popularity. It is a subject that shouldn't be taken lightly. To declare war is the equivalent of stating that the conflict is unable to be solved in any way other than conflict. I believe that war is morally acceptable when it is the best of all of your options and results in the least harmful consequences. If you are willing to put thousands of lives at risk, you have to be completely sure that it is the best way to keep the largest amount of people safe. The best way to deal with conflict is to first negotiate and compromise. If there is absolutely no possibility of a compromise, that is when the possibility of war should be considered.
