Assignment 22 - Hampton Jefferson
One unusual thing in my life that changed me happened when I was young. In third grade, I contracted MRSA. MRSA is a skin disease that can be fatal if it is left alone for a while. While I had no idea what it was and I didn't really care, my parents were terrified. I eventually had to get surgery although that didn't have a huge change in my life, but staying in the hospital did. I believe I was in the hospital for about three or four days and at the time I never heard of someone staying in the hospital for multiple days. It was also a huge change from my normal life which was, in third grade, gig to school and then going home and playing outside. In the hospital I was unable to move from the bed they put me on so I had to watch tv all day. After the hospital, I still was unable to walk without crutches and I had to do rehab. It makes me grateful today that I am able to do normal things like walk around or play basetball. I think this makes me a good fit for college because during college I will go through unusual experiences like I did in third grade and I will know how to approach them.
